What is the Internet of Things (IoT)?
There is no need to come up with a unique definition, the one posted on Wikipedia is pretty good:
The Internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to inter-operate within the existing Internet infrastructure.
But how would that look like in the real world?
Internet of Things will fundamentally change how home controls, appliances, lighting, and other everyday products are made, used and sold. Users will control their homes through smartphones or tablets while manufacturers will deliver updates, new features and information feeds directly to their products. Consumer products will stop being just products; they will become the foundation for ongoing relationships.
